Commenting on the success of the area in the nominations, Julia Robinson, manager at Southside BID, said: “Independent traders make up most of our district and it’s great to see them recognised by Independent Birmingham. The panel has a very tough job as the indie offering is brilliant in Birmingham, but we’re proud to have nine chances of winning.

“Southside is home to some the country’s best entertainment venues – Birmingham Hippodrome has the highest theatre footfall in the UK, The Electric is the oldest working cinema and Snobs is an institution known to students and revellers across the country – they all thoroughly deserve their nominations.”
