From street management to first aid assistance, no two days are ever the same for a Southside street warden.
Tracy and her team of wardens are patrolling the streets every day to ensure the safety of those within Southside BID. Not only do dedicated Southside street wardens offer support, customer service and general visitor information, they also provide early intervention support to try and prevent situations from escalating. Tracy explains how her role is important for creating a harmonious environment for businesses, visitors and residents:
“We aim to make the Southside area a friendly and inviting place for everyone. We act as ambassadors to provide a highly-visible representation of Southside BID. My role is varied and demanding with an element of excitement – if I could describe my job in three words it would be: enhancing, gratifying and challenging. I like the fact that I’m making a difference in people’s lives. Everything I do as a street warden is to make Southside better.”
With over 20 years’ experience in public-facing roles, Tracy’s work consists of everything from patrolling the area to street cleaning and liaising with Birmingham City Council, West Midlands Police, Highways Agency and Severn Trent to ensure everything in the area is running smoothly.
“When I applied for the role, I was looking for a fresh challenge. Since my time here, I can honestly say that I have seen Southside change for the better. We’ve introduced increased patrols which have subsequently led to an overall safer environment, alongside cleaner streets and floral enhancements. Both the street wardens and the board members are passionate about enhancing the area, which is why we’re working tirelessly to promote a more environmentally friendly area, whilst always maintaining safety.”
“Southside is a beautifully unique community – I don’t think there’s anywhere quite like it. We’re spoilt for choice in terms of bars, clubs, restaurants, shops and venues.”
