One of the frequent challenges for a small business is taking the step to become more sustainable and reduce environmental impact. Within Southside, International Synergies (ISL) and First Mile are two companies working towards a cleaner, greener Birmingham with each offering services to businesses looking to become more eco-friendly.

International Synergies is a consultancy based in Birmingham with a decade and a half’s experience helping businesses reduce their environmental impact and realise the associated financial benefits.

Working in partnership with the BID team, ISL aspires to make Southside one of the most environmentally friendly districts in Birmingham. No matter what your business, ISL offers Southside businesses 12 hours of free support. Working with each business, they will identify opportunities to reduce gas and electricity bills, waste disposal costs and seek out other businesses that could reuse waste materials within their own activities.

First Mile is a leading waste and recycling company serving over 25,000 businesses who have recently started working with Southside BID.

Matt Verney who is the First Mile Recycling Adviser for Birmingham says:

“We are really excited to partner with Southside BID. Our collaboration will enable us to improve recycling rates and reduce costs to businesses in the area, essentially rewarding them for being greener. It also allows us to work on other projects around lowering emissions and keeping the streets clean, which are already successfully implemented with other BID partners. Well done to Southside BID for taking a step towards improving the environment!”

With a mission of zero-to-landfill promise and sustainable recycling solutions for 25 material types, First Mile makes it easy and affordable for businesses to recycle, manage waste and reduce their impact on the environment. BID members can benefit from special rates for a number of recycling services including cardboard, general waste, mixed recycling, food waste and confidential paper shredding.
